Grabbing hold of meaningful work alongside studies – Business students Elias Pesola and Ville Alaniska accelerate OneClinic's growth
Elias Pesola and Ville Alaniska, who are studying for their Master’s degrees in Business at the University of Oulu, have managed to combine their studies and working life smoothly and in a highly rewarding way. Both joined the team at OneClinic, a company specialising in healthcare logistics, already last year and have quickly found interesting challenges and responsible tasks within the company.
Alaniska’s career at OneClinic began with support tasks in financial administration, from which his role has expanded into versatile expert work. ”Nowadays, my desk includes not only financial administration but also sales support, organising various events, and assisting the CEO with diverse tasks. The job description is nicely broad and educational,” he says.
Pesola’s everyday work, on the other hand, has strongly focused on sales promotion and international openings. ”I have created sales materials, done translation work, and sought sales contacts, especially in the Swedish market. I completed my high school studies on the Swedish side, at the Gällivare alpine high school, so the language skills and knowledge of the local culture have been immensely useful in this job,” Pesola admits.
Eyes on the profitability of the entire national economy
OneClinic’s core business, healthcare material logistics, is strongly linked to current societal themes. This has also been directly reflected in the everyday lives and even the studies of the young employees. Alaniska is particularly interested in questions related to the profitability of the wellbeing services counties.
”I wrote my Bachelor’s thesis on themes related to cost accounting in material logistics. It is currently a significant issue for the entire national economy – it is crucially important to consider all the ways in which wellbeing services counties can be made to operate profitably and efficiently,” Alaniska reflects.
Pesola agrees. ”These are exactly the kinds of things that make working at OneClinic so interesting. Here, you get to actually see and do things that have a real impact on how society functions,” he says.

Responsibility is given, and help is always available
Although both still have their Master’s studies in progress, they feel they have been given a fair amount of responsibility at OneClinic from the very beginning.
”OneClinic is an interesting workplace. Here, they trust young employees and give us the opportunity to genuinely influence our own work and how it is done,” Pesola assesses.
”And what makes this particularly great is the collaborative work culture. If you face challenges that you can’t immediately find an answer to yourself, help is always available. It’s easy to ponder and solve things together with colleagues,” Alaniska describes.
Young people bring fresh energy to the company
OneClinic’s CEO, Veli-Matti Pietilä, has been pleased to follow the young men’s progress. The company invests heavily in the future, and young professionals play a crucial role in that.
”Elias and Ville’s fantastic contribution shows why hiring students and young experts always pays off. They bring fresh ideas, an immense desire to learn, and an open-minded attitude to the company,” Pietilä praises. ”It is a joy to see how well they have taken their place as part of our work community.”
