OneClinic Logistics creates a connection to The Medicines Verification System
The construction of the Medicines Verification System based on the EU Falsified Medicines Directive is nearing completion. The Verification system must be operational on February 9, 2019. In Finland, however, the goal is for it to be fully operational by November this year.
The Medicines Verification System aims to prevent counterfeit medicines from entering the legal supply chain in the EU. The introduction of the system will require changes to existing IT systems, at least in pharmacies, public and private healthcare hospital pharmacies and dispensaries, pharmaceutical wholesalers, pharmaceutical companies and parallel importers.
Making the necessary changes goes smoothly, if the OneClinic Logistics system is being used.
“We have a solution to the challenges posed by the Medicines Verification System. Several of our customers are already building a connection to the Verification System with OneClinic Logistics. Interest in our solution has grown even more. Inquiries are constantly coming in, ”says Veli-Matti Pietilä, CEO of OneClinic Oy.
All in all, OneClinic Logistics is a comprehensive system for ordering, receiving and storing care supplies and medicines. Now it also allows its users the connection they need to the Medicines Verification System.
The EU-wide Medicines Verification System consists of a central European database in which pharmaceutical manufacturers enter personalized information on the medicine packages they place on the market. In addition, each country will have its own databases, into which the data entered in the central database will flow. National systems – which communicate with each other through a central database – are used by local wholesalers, pharmacies, hospital pharmacies and dispensaries when purchasing medicines.
According to Veli-Matti Pietilä, private healthcare companies that have dispensaries and who order medicines from wholesale distributors have been particularly interested in the OneClinic Logistics solution. The solution is equally suitable for public healthcare providers with hospital pharmacies or dispensaries.
“All of these necessarily need a solution that has a connection to the national verification system if they want to continue buying medicines from wholesale,” CEO Pietilä points out.
