NeMo (OneClinic Logistics) upgraded Terveystalo’s medical equipment and medication logistics
Terveystalo, which handles four million patient visits every year, needs a large amount of various medical equipment and medicines for its everyday operations. Now, Terveystalo can handle the orders, arrivals and storage of equipment and medications a lot more efficiently than before. A large part of its hospital units in various parts of Finland is now using M@tsku – a system particularly designed for improving the logistics of health care.
M@tsku – fast order and inventory management
M@tsku is a name given by Terveystalo to the NeMo system developed by OneClinic. At first, Terveystalo tested the system at Terveystalo Turku Pulssi in autumn 2013. According to Mikko Sareela, the supply chain manager of Terveystalo, the system is currently in full use for all equipment already in sixteen medical units, of which four units also use this system for medications.
”We want to expand the use of M@tsku even further, particularly in medication logistics. Our goal is to start using the system for medications in twenty of our units, and in seventeen of our units for equipment, as well. Thus, M@tsku would cover the equipment and medication logistics in all of our larger units”, he said.
Terveystalo is Finland’s largest health care company, providing a versatile range of health, occupational health, medical and research services. OneClinic Ltd is a software company, focusing on the resource planning and operations management of the healthcare industry.
Sareela, the supply chain manager, said that Terveystalo uses M@tsku for ordering and receiving equipment and medications, for example, as well as the management of the product range, stock levels, order quantities and order times. Terveystalo is using this system also for monitoring batch numbers, expiry dates and the use of narcotic substances. Indeed, one of the unique features of M@tsku is that it covers both equipment and medications.
M@tsku is big step forward
According to Sareela, the implementation of M@tsku has resulted in a big change in Terveystalo’s medical equipment and medication logistics, both for medical centres and departments. At Terveystalo, hundreds of people use M@tsku to a greater or smaller extent. Due to this optimisation and automation, the system frees up time for the medical staff.
For Pirjo Moilanen, a dispensary nurse at Terveystalo Turku Pulssi, M@tsku is a tool that she uses constantly. She is happy with the system.
”I use M@tsku to deal with all tasks related to materials management. This system helps me a lot in my work. I would never want to give up M@tsku, and return to our earlier practices. This has been a big step forward”, she praised.
Terveystalo is expecting M@tsku to help reach considerable savings, because the system improves inventory turnover, reduces the amount of errors, reduces wastage, and frees up work time for other tasks. According to Sareela, the supply chain manager, M@tsku brings an overall transparency to the entire logistical process.
”We are currently monitoring the changes and results incurred by using M@tsku. We are building meters into the system, with which we would be able to improve our operations constantly. For example, we can manage operations based on inventory turnover speeds and real-time stock values”, Sareela stated.
