OneClinic Logistics to solve the logistics challenges of Fimlab, Finland’s largest laboratory company

Fimlab Laboratoriot Oy is the largest healthcare laboratory company in Finland. It has about 1.3 million customers in Finland. Like other companies in the sector, Fimlab has faced major logistical challenges in increasing testing capacity and other activities at a rapid pace due to the interest rate pandemic.

Logistics Manager at Fimlab, Jani Säynäväjärvi, says that the company wanted to standardise its logistics practices and processes and acquire one centralised system. The company has five operating areas, each of which has had its own systems and procedures for managing the logistics of laboratory supplies. After a competitive tender process, OneClinic Logistics was selected.

”We are very pleased with the outcome of the tender. With OneClinic Logistics we are looking for a number of benefits. Most importantly, we will gain greater control of the logistics chain within the company. Among other things, it will make it easier to place orders. We will also streamline all logistical operations and stock monitoring in each of our regions,” he says.

The system also provides more accurate information on material consumption for financial management and internal monitoring.

phased deployment

Fimlab will introduce OneClinic Logistics in phases – first in Tampere and then in the rest of Pirkanmaa. By the end of this year, Säynäväjärvi says, it will be extended to all five of Fimlab’s operating regions and all 120 of its branches. The range of features that will be introduced depends on the size of the branch.

”OneClinic Logistics is mainly used by the order handlers at the various sites, of which we have a few hundred. The system covers thousands of supplies, such as needles, sample tubes and various reagents used for either sampling or diagnostics,” Säynäväjärvi explains.

Säynäväjärvi says that OneClinic Logistics has already had some time to introduce itself to Fimlab staff. He says that the staff responsible for orders have been pleased that work can be expected to become significantly easier.

Fimlab is owned by the municipalities of Pirkanmaa, Central Finland and Kanta-Häme Hospital District, as well as the Päijät-Häme Welfare Community Association and the Pohjanmaa Welfare Region Municipal Association.
