Docrates satisfies the requirements of the Falsified Medicines Directive with OneClinic Logistics

The private Docrates Cancer Center in Helsinki will adopt the OneClinic Logistics system in autumn 2018. A weighty reason for acquiring the system was that the hospital will now be able to satisfy the requirements of the EU Falsified Medicines Directive, and establish a connection with the Medicines Verification System in accordance with the directive.

Pharmacist Hanna Kangasmäki, who works for the Docrates dispensary, says that with the system, the hospital also wants to improve the inventory management and facilitate the ordering process and consumption monitoring of medicines.

According to Kangasmäki, the first impressions of OneClinic Logistics have been very good.

“The system is very easy to use. We are also impressed by the adaptability of OneClinic Logistics and the ability of the solution provider to meet our requirements. In addition, the system has solid references, in particular from the private health care sector”, she says.

At the Docrates Cancer Center, OneClinic Logistics will mainly be used by pharmacists working in the hospital’s dispensary, as well as a few nurses working on the wards. The system includes hundreds of medicines.

Connection to the Medicines Verification System

OneClinic Logistics, developed by the Finnish company OneClinic Oy, is an all-inclusive system for the ordering, reception and storage of medical supplies and medicines. According to CEO Veli-Matti Pietilä, the solution also provides its users with a connection to the EU Medicines Verification System, which is required to be operational by 9 February 2019.

The Medicines Verification System aims to prevent falsified medicines from entering the legal supply chain within the EU. The adoption of the system necessitates changes to the present IT systems in pharmacies, hospital pharmacies and dispensaries in the public and private health care sectors, medicine wholesalers, pharmaceutical manufacturers and parallel distributors.

According to Veli-Matti Pietilä, private health service providers who have dispensaries and who order their pharmaceuticals from wholesalers have been particularly interested in the OneClinic Logistics solution. The solution is equally well suited for public health care providers with hospital pharmacies or dispensaries.

“All of the above require a solution which is connected to the national verification system, if they want to continue purchasing pharmaceuticals from wholesalers,” says CEO Pietilä.
