Working at OneClinic: Mikko Kovalainen the testing multitalent and athletic father
Mikko Kovalainen works as a tester at OneClinic and he lives in Oulu. He’s been with the company for approximately 6 months now, and he has brought over 20 years of testing experience with him. Prior to working at OneClinic, Mikko worked with mobile phone networks, but once he was faced with the need for a change in his career, what could have been better than healthcare logistics?

Mikko says he was immediately interested in OneClinic when he saw the announcement of the open position. He had a lot of experience from mobile phone networks but wanted to find himself a new career path, and the change to learn something new from the healthcare industry raised his interest. So far, Mikko sees his new position as extremely positive.
”OneClinic has a great working environment and teammates. My tasks have been intriguing, and I have been able to develop automatic testing, which is one of my interests”, Mikko tells.
The biggest change has been a smaller and more agile working community
Mikko has a long history of working for large corporations. In his previous job, he was one of the 1,000 employees in Finland, while the company had over 15,000 globally. Now, at OneClinic, things are different as Mikko works as part of a team made of about 10 people.
”It’s always been easy to get to know everyone in smaller organisations. The community spirit is strong, and things happen rather quickly, when there is less bureaucracy. This has been a real positive change for me”, Mikko says.
In a smaller team, Mikko also feels like he is able to get more professional depth, as he has been able to work with new technologies that were not used in his previous workplace.
Interesting industry and opportunities to learn
Mikko sends his greetings to everyone thinking about an internship or workplace at OneClinic: ”The healthcare logistics industry is very intriguing, and the change to constantly learn something new keeps the motivation to work high. In this working community, one can also easily take part in tasks outside of their specific role and influence the company’s operations.”
He wants to underline that OneClinic offers plenty of opportunities for learning and flexibility in terms of job description, which in his opinion is one of the factors that sets it apart from other jobs.
Mikko sees a lot of potential in healthcare logistics as well. ”The industry keeps growing and developing constantly. There are a lot of softwares that need to be reformed, and we have the opportunity to participate in building future solutions.”
Mikko works in close cooperation with developers and the product owner during specifications and product development. He encourages others to apply to a field where there are many opportunities to make an impact.
Family and exercising close to the heart
Outside of work, Mikko spends time doing physical activities. He plays basketball and coaches junior soccer players. Transporting children to hobbies is also part of the family’s everyday life. This is how he combines working life and active family life.
