OneClinic Logistics expanding to the entire Eksote area
OneClinic Logistics has been tested for a year at Eksote will be more extensively used starting in autumn 2014. In the future, OneClinic Logistics – or Marta, as it has been named at Eksote – will be used throughout the South Karelia Social and Health Care District. In practice, this means that OneClinic Logistics will be implemented in South Karelia's central hospitals, all Eksote's health and welfare establishments as well as in a few other units.
Developed by OneClinic, OneClinic Logistics makes healthcare logistics more efficient. It has been designed for the efficient mobile management of unit and operating storage, as well as for placing orders by way of bar codes. At Eksote, OneClinic Logistics project is developed by Tiina Purhonen, the logistics manager for the social services and healthcare district.
”All in all, OneClinic Logistics – once it is in full use here – will cover about twenty different units in addition to the central hospital,” she counted.
OneClinic Logistics or Marta is being used gradually more extensively at Eksote. According to Purhonen, the system is supposed to be in full use by the end of 2014 at the latest. At Eksote, OneClinic Logistics is used for managing the storage and orders of care equipment. The most common care equipment includes, for example, various bandages, diapers, syringes and needles.
This system is easy to use. When a product is taken from the storage, information about it will be recorded in the system. This takes place effortlessly with the help of small mobile devices. These devices simply read the product's barcode, thereby checking the product out from storage. Information about stock availability is always up to date. In OneClinic Logistics, products also have separately specified balance limits. The system will automatically order more products if the balance limit is reached. When the products arrive from the suppliers, they are recorded as having arrived at the warehouse.
At Eksote, the mobile devices are situated at the warehouses for care equipment, but this system can certainly be used in offices as well.
”…user experiences have been positive.”
According to Tiina Purhonen, people had an increasingly positive response to OneClinic Logistics during the testing period.
”At the beginning, there was naturally some resistance to change. Once that subsided, the user experiences have been positive. OneClinic Logistics makes work easier, because no one has to place orders themselves anymore; instead, the system looks after it automatically. OneClinic Logistics also ensures that there is always a sufficient amount of equipment,” she said.
Eksote, the South Karelia Social and Health Care District, provides healthcare, family, social and elderly care services that promote health, welfare and functionality. This district includes nine municipalities in the South Karelia region, with Lappeenranta as the largest.
